Sex as a source of pleasure, as distinct from its services to procreation, has been frowned upon, openly or tacitly, by the establishment. But at the same time, violence as an instrument of national policy, has been blessed. The hypocrisy of regarding sex as sinful if practiced in the name of pleasure, while regarding murder as virtuous if practiced in the name of the state, has been manifest to a growing number of people for some time.
